*Character Profiles are just a snapshot of the characters in Running to Stand Still. Like the Extra’s on a DVD, this is just some bonus background information, and I posted it entirely for my own amusement. Read only if interested.

Jamie Michelle Benson
Female protagonist
POV character

23 years old
DOB: October 26, 1988
(should note that the story takes place in 2012, simultaneously with The Charm Necklace–where (Easter Egg!) Jamie and Collin make a cameo.)

Medium, straight length brown hair with reddish tint in it (especially in sun)
Dark brown eyes, light skin
130 lbs. slim, with curves
Straightforward walk

Dresses casual punk, jeans, and t-shirts with black Moto boots
Shops mostly at Target and Plato’s Closet

Born in Detroit, MI
Grew up/currently lives in Harper Woods, MI
Middle-lower class family
German/English/Scottish ethnic background

Graduated from HS 2006
Studying Public Relations at Wayne State University
Has been taking classes part-time (because of her job and taking care of her family and house)
Graduates from college May 2012

Works at Charlie’s Place, her dad’s bar as bartender and assistant manager

Daily routine varies. Mostly, class in the AM and then working in the afternoons.

Responsibilities – taking care of her younger brother Nathan, working at the bar, taking care of stuff around the house (cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry), schoolwork

Doesn’t really blame Charlie for how he is or how hard he has made it since Amy left, just deals with it.

Very protective of younger brother and is so controlling because she wants him to get out of Harper Woods and have a better life. Is always on top of him about who he is hanging out with, where he is at, his homework, college applications, etc.

Drives a 1997 silver Jeep Cherokee

Strength trains/calisthenics 3x a week at home because she doesn’t want to waste money on a gym membership.

1. Get Nathan into a good 4-year university
2. Get out of Harper Woods – graduate and move to Chicago

Why is this character worth writing about? She is going through what a lot of other new adults are going through—everything taking longer than you think it’s going to, life not turning out how you plan it to. She’s conflicted between what she thinks she should want and what she actually wants. She is strong, driven, motivated, and cares deeply for her brother. She loves deeply. She has a past, has a history, but is still a whole person just trying to make it in this world. She is more than the mistakes she’s made. She is sexually empowered. And even though she tries to portray herself as a hard-ass she is really soft and caring at the core.

Thing character likes most about herself? Her drive, motivation, and work ethic.

Thing character would most like to change? How hard she has to be on her brother. Her selfishness.

Economical and prudent with money

Not religious

Loves the Red Wings and Tigers

Doesn’t watch TV – doesn’t have cable

Music – alternative rock and classic rock

Doesn’t read outside of her class work

Philosophy of life – you have to work hard for what you want

Handle stress and problems – head on confrontation, can get bitchy

Capable of lying – Yes

Capable of cheating – No

Capable of stealing – No

How does character react in extreme circumstances?
Either a.) confronts them head on and keeps cool, or b.) shuts off emotions and tunes others out, tries to handle it on her own

Fears – staying in Harper Woods, not making anything of herself, turning out to be her mom, losing Nathan, failure

Willing to die for her brother.

Does not believe in destiny

Usually has a hard time falling asleep, no matter how tired she is

Doesn’t know how she feels about having kids. She’s not sure she wants that life. She doesn’t think she wants it. She certainly doesn’t trust herself to parent. Is much more comfortable with the idea of just working and being a career woman. She doesn’t trust the domestic life. It has failed her, so she doesn’t trust it.

Holland Code: Enterprising – Artistic – Social

Scorpios are all about control; they need to be in control at all times; to be out of control is very threatening, even dangerous to the Scorpio’s psyche, when they control, they feel safe.

Scorpios have a fear of failure and showing weaknesses.

Scorpios are very weary about trusting anyone, a person needs to gain their trust and this gets built up over time and once all the ‘trust tests’ have been passed, Scorpio loves deeply and intensely

Passionate, stubborn, resourceful, brave, a true friend, dynamic, loyal, observant

Jealous, distrusting, secretive, violent, caustic, obsessive, suspicious, unyielding, manipulative

Charismatic marks
an intense look in the eyes, muscular

Truth, facts, being right, teasing, longtime friends, a grand passion, a worthy adversary

Dishonesty, passive people, revealing secrets

Best environment
Dark, sensuous places, any situation that offers power or rouses strong feelings

Up next: Collin

Until next time, farewell & may your life never cease to be filled with wonder and curiosity.
